Transparency — or a Back-Door Tax Increase?
The City of Cambridge recently removed stormwater funding from the property-tax levy and began charging residentAL AND COMMERCIAL PROPERTY OWNERS separately through their utility bills. The City has described this change as a move toward greater transparency. But transparency should not mean paying twice. If stormwater funding was previously collected through property taxes, then removing it from the property-tax levy should have resulted in a corresponding reduction in the property-tax burden.
For many taxpayers, that reduction never materialized.
Was this truly a change in how stormwater costs are collected — or has it become an increase in what Cambridge taxpayers are being required to pay?
Calling a new charge “transparent” does not make it revenue-neutral. If the City moved an existing cost from one tax mechanism to another, taxpayers should be shown, clearly and publicly:

We are calling on our community to reject the separate stormwater billing system. We believe these costs must remain within the general property tax levy to ensure accountability and fairness. Your support helps us block this new bill and keep our public funding transparent.

Please consider a small donation to our GoFundMe page. We are trying to raise $2,600 for supplies. The website and promotional materials have been paid for by the generosity of anonymous donors. Funds collected will be reconciled and made transparent on this site.
Any residual funds once this campaign ends will be donated to the Cambridge Food Bank

Community Feedback
Stormwater management is an essential public service. We believe it should remain part of the general property tax levy rather than being issued as a separate bill, ensuring it is funded fairly alongside our community's other core utilities.
